Data - About the Archive

The UNAVCO Archive was created in 1992 as part of the UNAVCO mission to support and promote Earth science by advancing high-precision techniques for the measurement of crustal deformation. The UNAVCO Archive provides secure long-term storage for data and data products from crustal deformation measurements, and holds metadata in a searchable database. Data and data products from the Archive are available to the scientific community and to the public. Today, GNSS (GPS) data from hundreds of campaigns and over 1000 permanent stations make up the largest component of the Archive's holdings. The Archive's GNSS holdings are divided into two categories according to collection style: permanent station (also referred to as continuous) and campaign (also referred to as episodic or survey-mode). All of the Archive's publicly available permanent station or campaign GNSS data can be accessed directly from the UNAVCO FTP server (please see FTP Server Layout for a description of the directory structure) or through search and access tools that employ name, spatial, temporal, and other filters to identify stations or campaigns of interest.

UNAVCO has assembled a selection of products and solutions on our science product support pages. These include the solutions contributing to GPSVEL, the community project to produce a combined, consistent, high quality global GPS velocity field, and the GPS Site Motion Vector/Crustal Velocity Archive, that is assembling data products such as velocity vectors for distribution.

In 2004, the Archive became the official repository for GPS data and products from the PBO component of EarthScope. PBO GPS data are available through the Archive's search and access tools. PBO SINEX files, position time series and velocity vectors are available from the Archive via ftp and from PBO.

Since 2005, UNAVCO has particpated as a node providing remote sensing synthetic aperture RADAR data to members of the WInSAR consortium, and the Archive holds most of the WInSAR collection online at UNAVCO. To access archived radar data you must be a consortium member.
