Project Highlights 2005 - Toolik Field Station DGPS system upgrade

Toolik Field Station DGPS system upgrade

  • Principal Investigator (PI): Andrew Balser, Institute of Arctic Biology, University of Alaska
  • UNAVCO Engineers: Beth Bartel
  • Dates: April 2005
  • Location: Toolik Lake, Alaska

A Trimble NetRS receiver was installed as a real-time kinematic base at Toolik Field Station (TFS), on the north side of Alaska's Brooks Range. The NetRS replaced a Trimble 5700 installed in 2004, when the RTK system was established. This upgrade offers remote reprogramming and downloading of the base, and allows the previous 5700 GPS receiver to be used as a second rover. Alternatively, this second roving 5700 can be set up as an RTK base away from the Toolik Field Station. This will benefit groups wanting real-time results who are farther away than 10 km from TFS.
