GPS Project Training Course - Data Backup
10. Data Backup Considerable expense goes into collecting geodetic quality GPS data, and the data should always be backed up as soon as possible to safeguard against loss, destruction, or corrupted media. While the particular data backup strategy may vary with logistics and personal preferences, there should always be three independent copies of all GPS data until it is confirmed that the data have been safeguarded in a data archive such as UNAVCO. Options for data storage prior to final archiving include CDs, zip disks, PC memory cards, floppy disks, computer hard drives, and the GPS receiver memory. Before deleting any files from a GPS receiver, make sure they are adequately backed up elsewhere! A good practice is to keep copies of the data in separate locations and with different people. We are redesigning the UNAVCO website and would like your help by taking a short Web survey. It should take you less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank You!
