NSF Cost-Share will be used to reduce university costs for acquiring the required, high-quality GPS receivers and computers configured for data collection and dissemination using well established methodologies for data distribution via the Internet.

The University Cost-Share (for atmospheric applications) includes a surface meteorological package, cabling, lightning protection, and a reliable power source. The estimated total cost of this equipment is less than $6,000. If a university decides to also use its SuomiNet site for geodetic applications, the university will be responsible for the additional costs of geodetic monumentation and related expenses. University cost share also includes in kind costs (faculty, staff and student time) for installation of the equipment, provision of Internet connection for the dedicated computer, and operation and upkeep of the SuomiNet site for five years. Participants purchase this equipment directly from the vendors and all warranty agreements are directly between the participant and vendor.
