Technology Highlights - Joint Coast Guard/ NGS/ UNAVCO GPS Installation

The Coast Guard, NGS, and UNAVCO collaborated to install 2 NGS-style, poured concrete geodetic monuments at the Coast Guard DGPS rebroadcast station in Pueblo Colorado. The geodetic DGPS monuments include an Ashtech choke ring antenna, and SCIGN mount and tall radome. It is anticipated that the stations will be operational by November 2001. The purpose of this installation was to provide a joint Coast Guard/NGS/UNAVCO DGPS station with deep anchored, monolithic concrete geodetic monuments.

The monolithic concrete monument has a 2 ft diameter base to a depth of 12 feet and a 12 inch above ground pillar to a height of 5 feet. A two inch diameter stainless steel antenna mast was placed such that threads were 8 inches above the top of the monument. The top of the concrete monument was beveled to shed water.

See Joint Coast Guard/ NGS/ UNAVCO GPS Installation for more details.
